AUGUSTA, Ga. -- GRU Augusta Director of Athletics Clint Bryant announced Tuesday the resignation of Jaguar Head Men’s Golf Coach Kevin McPherson.

McPherson stepped down from his Jaguars’ post to take over as head men’s golf coach at Coastal Carolina University in his hometown of Conway, S.C.

“Kevin wants to get back to his hometown and to his family. We appreciate the job he did here the last five-plus years,” Bryant said. “He leaves our program in good shape and we wish him the best in his future endeavors. We are considering our options as it relates to the 2013-14 season. We have an outstanding golf team with some very capable student-athletes and will do what is in the best interests of the student-athletes and GRU Augusta Golf.”

Bryant also indicated an announcement is pending on the immediate plans for McPherson’s replacement.

McPherson guided the GRU Augusta Women’s Golf program for three seasons prior to being named the head coach of the men’s program on July 27, 2011. He led the Jaguar women’s squad to an NCAA Regional appearance in 2011 in Daytona Beach, Fla. In his first season at the helm of the men’s program in 2011-12, he took the Jags to an NCAA Regional berth in Athens, Ga. In two-plus seasons, he guided the Jags to four tournament titles, including three victories in 2012-13.
