AIKEN, S.C. – Behind four players in double figures the nationally sixth-ranked University of South Carolina Aiken women’s basketball team claimed a 69-58 Peach Belt Conference victory over Francis Marion on Saturday evening at the Convocation Center.
The victory allowed USC Aiken (15-2, 8-2 PBC), which never trailed in the game, to remain in sole possession of first place in the Peach Belt Conference East Division.
Mia Antoine led the four Pacers in double figures with a career-high tying 16 points. Antoine shot 60 percent (6-for-10) from the field in the game. She was a perfect 4-of-4 at the charity stripe.
Antoine (Stone Mountain, Ga./Dominion Christian HS) also had six rebounds, two assists and two steals in the Pacer win.
Daniela Tarailo (Crown Point, Ind./Crown Point HS) closed out the Pacer victory over Francis Marion with 15 points, four rebounds, four assists and one steal.
Porsha Martin (Douglasville, Ga./South Paulding HS) and Mackenzie Reese (Madison, Wis./Edgewood HS) each finished with 11 points in the win over Francis Marion. Martin also had a team-best eight rebounds to go along with three assists.
Reese ended her evening with four rebounds, two assists and one steal in addition to her 11 points.
USC Aiken’s Brittany Hill (Mechanicsville, Va./Quinnipiac) did not end her night in double figures in scoring, but she once again figured prominently in numerous categories as she had eight points, six assists and one steal. She also had no turnovers in the contest.
Briana Robinson was the top scorer for the Patriots in their loss. She ended the loss to the Pacers with a game-high 18 points.
USC Aiken as a team ended the win over Francis Marion (7-8, 2-7 PBC) shooting 45.8 percent (27-for-59). The Pacers held Francis Marion to just 33.3 percent (18-for-54) shooting as a team.
The Pacers closed out the game shooting 45.5 percent (5-of-11) from beyond the arc. Francis Marion hit just 33.3 percent (4-for-12) of its 3-point attempts as a team in the game.
USC Aiken shot 71.4 percent (10-for-14) from the free throw line in the game, while Francis Marion could only manage to hit 18 of its 28 free throw attempts (64.3 percent).
USC Aiken held a commanding presence in the paint in the game, outscoring Francis Marion, 38-14. The Pacers out-rebounded Francis Marion, 45-34.
The Pacers have now won seven straight against the Patriots. USC Aiken is now 2-0 against Francis Marion this season.
USC Aiken also bested Francis Marion, 74-55, on Dec. 17 in Florence, S.C.
USC Aiken has now won 27 of its last 28 regular-season home games.
The Pacers will next welcome Peach Belt Conference rival Flagler to the Convocation Center on Thursday, Jan. 31. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
