ATLANTA (AP) -- Former NFL player Kendrell Bell is accusing his college football coach at the University of Georgia of duping him out of $2 million.

Bell's lawyers said in a court filing last month that Jim Donnan convinced Bell to invest in a liquidation company and that the coach was actually the front man for a scam. Donnan has filed for bankruptcy protection, and Bell filed a claim in federal bankruptcy court to recover his money

Federal court filings claim Donnan also helped attract investments in the alleged Ponzi scheme from high-profile sports figures.

Bell's attorneys on Friday declined to comment on the case. Donnan's lawyer Ed Tolley did not return a phone call and an email. Tolley has previously said the ex-coach wasn't involved in an illegal scheme.

Bell played linebacker for seven seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers and Kansas City Chiefs.
