June 13, 2014 NORTH AUGUSTA, SC-- Summer is the prime time for high school recruiting. Camps and visits headline the summer schedules of most athletes looking for scholarships.

Although those are the headlines. A lot more goes into getting an offer and committing to a school.

A group made up of former CSRA rivals have banded together for the NexStep Student Academy. Players like Silver Bluff's De'Angelo Bryant and Troy Williamson along with North Augusta's Reggie Merriweather are teaching players and parents on the ins and outs of recruiting.

And also some basic information on making your college decision.

"Don't bite on the first thing. Take all your visits, talk to all the coaches, get a feel for the campus, do what's right for you. I think a lot of people jump into it and they bite into the first thing that's been given to them. Every school is going to give them an opportunity," Merriweather said.

Friday night served as the first endeavor of the NexStep Academy. The project has been in the works for eight years. Merriweather adds that he hopes their advice can serve as motivation to follow your passion on and off the field.
