McCormick, SC--It's one of, if not the most popular stop of the NGA Golf Tour, the Savannah Lakes Village Classic in McCormick. Not only a big purse, but the hospitality that's unmatched at any other event.
Most of these guys are playing golf for a living for the first time in their lives, and you look at who's been on this tour, it's an impressive list. One guy giving it a go, former USC Aiken All American Matt Atkins. He played a bunch last year after graduating and this is his first full year with golf as his profession.
"You know you kind of don't realize how good everyone is" said Matt Atkins "In college it may have been a little bit easier to shoot a good score. So out here you kind of have to grind and not think too much about the future and just go out and play your game."
Atkins says the travel doesn't bother him and he's got no timetable to make it to the PGA Tour. He does plan on going through sectional qualifying for the US Open and even a few Monday qualifiers for Web.Com tour events. The Savannah Lakes Village Classic runs through Sunday.
