Former Josey star signs with Georgia Southern

STATESBORO, GA. – Georgia Southern Men’s Basketball Head Coach Mark Byington has announced the addition of his first signee for the 2013-14 season, Kyle Doyle. The 6-6 Forward from Hephzibah, Ga. has signed his National Letter of Intent with the Eagles after playing last season at Atlanta’s Buford High School.

In his only season at Gwinnett County’s Buford High School, Doyle led the Eagles to a Class AAA Final Four appearance. The Wolves finished the season at 25-7 behind Doyle’s strong play in the low post. The senior picked up the Region 7-3A Player of the Year Award as well as AAA first team All-State Honors.

"I am very excited to have Kyle join our program,” said Head Coach Mark Byington “We expect him to make a major impact with our team next year. Kyle can play both forward spots and has a lot of qualities that will benefit our team. He is tough, skilled, intelligent, and plays very hard.”

Doyle earned spots on the Georgia Athletic Coaches Association All-Star Team and Gwinnett County All-Star Game. His transfer to Buford High School came after three seasons playing at Augusta’s Josey High School.

At Josey, Doyle was an All-Area selection by the August Chronicle and helped the Eagles to a Region 3-AAA Tournament Championship. He also played with the Georgia Stars AAU team which reached the AAU National Championships last season

The product of an Eagle family, Kyle’s father, Keith Doyle, attended Georgia Southern and his mother, Carletha Doyle, graduated with her doctorate from the university.
