Augusta, Ga.—Five local high school athletes, including two all-area players, were selected to participate in the invitation-only IMG ALL-MADDEN Football Camp on July 26-28 in Bradenton, Fla.
The group includes the Strom Thurmond trio of Jauveer Hammond, Kenyatta Dunbar and Chad Gilchrist and Laney's Vi'cente Walker and Andrea James.
Every summer, the elite football camp welcomes top high school players from across the country to train with an all-star cast of former NFL players and coaches.
This year’s lineup includes Chris Weinke, academy director and Heisman Trophy/National Championship winner; Vinny Testaverde, guest quarterback instructor, Heisman Trophy winner and two-time pro bowler; and Mark Carrier, wide receiver instructor, three-time pro-bowler and defensive backs coach for the Cincinnati Bengals.
During the weekend, which replicates the intensive experience of an NFL mini-camp, players receive both an offensive and defensive playbook. Each player is invited based on his performance, and at camp’s completion, top players are named to the 2013 IMG ALL-MADDEN Team and the NCSA Athletic Recruiting Next Men In Team. Camp MVPs are also honored.
All five athletes are members of Sleeper Recruit, an Augusta-based sports mentoring program dedicated to helping young athletes achieve their highest potential by identifying key opportunities such as the IMG ALL-MADDEN football camp.
“We mentor athletes both physically and academically so that they can advance to the next level,” said cofounder Rodney Tillman. “For many, this will mean the opportunity to earn college scholarships and even play professionally.”
This past year, one of Sleeper Recruit’s members, Jakar Hamilton, participated in the NFL draft and signed with the Dallas Cowboys as a free agent.
