BRASELTON, Ga. – When 96 junior golfers from around the country converge on Jones Creek Golf Club, July 25-28, for the E-Z-GO Vaughn Taylor Championship presented by Electrolux, five will be from the Augusta area. These locals will contend against players from 16 states, India, Mexico, Thailand, the United Kingdom and Venezuela during the 54-hole stroke play event.
Local players in the field include Blake Hadden, Tyler Barker, Emmanuel Kountakis and Davis Parker, all of Augusta, Ga., as well as Jessica Hoang of North Augusta, S.C. Representing Evans, Ga., will be Jack Gibbs and Kevin Steinmeyer.
Hoang recently finished second at the Golf Pride Junior Classic, held in Pinehurst, N.C. The rising junior has notched three top-10 finishes in AJGA competition in 2011.She looks to continue that success and improve on her third-place showing in the 2010 E-Z-GO Vaughn Taylor Championship presented by Electrolux.
Also in the Girls Division is last year’s winner, Taylor Ramsey of Milledgeville, Ga. Ramsey is looking to defend her title as she competes in the E-Z-GO Vaughn Taylor Championship presented by Electrolux for the third consecutive year. The rising high school senior has nine top-10 finishes in AJGA events, including an eighth-place finish at the 2011 AJGA Junior at Savannah Quarters.
The Boys Division will feature defending champion Dru Love of Sea Island, Ga. No. 52 in the Polo Golf Rankings, the rising senior is looking to continue his success from 2010 and top the leaderboard once again.
Joshua Lee of Orange Park, Fla., will also contend in the Boys Division. The rising high school junior is ranked
No. 72 in the Polo Golf Rankings and has six top-10 finishes in junior golf events, including a ninth-place finish at the 2011 HP Boys Championship at Carlton Woods.
Also in the field are juniors with strong finishes at the Georgia State Junior Championship, held at Augusta Country Club in June. Justin Connelly of McDonough, finished in second, while Acworth’s Michael Hines finished in third.
A shotgun practice round will be held Monday, July 25, at 8 a.m. Tournament rounds will be held Tuesday through Thursday, July 26-28, with first- through final-round tee times running from 8 a.m. – 1:10 p.m. off the No. 1 tee of Jones Creek Golf Club. An awards ceremony will immediately follow the final round. Guests are welcome to attend and admission is free of charge.
