May 17, 2014 LOUISVILLE, GA-- NFL lineman Fernando Velasco returned to Jefferson County Saturday. The former Georgia Bulldog hosted his annual Choices football camp.
Currently, Velasco is an NFL free agent, but he hopes to have some football choices of his own in the coming weeks.
Around 300 kids spent their Saturday morning at Warrior Field for Velasco's camp. The five-year NFL veteran was on hand and finally feeling healthy after tearing his Achilles on Thanksgiving Day.
The rehab from the complete tear has been a long, frustrating process, but Velasco feels like he's ready to go.
"That's the hard part (of the injury), watching your team playing on the field and just getting up everyday. I wake up at 6:30 every morning and go to rehab at 7. You see progress every day. I'm back running full speed and doing my offensive line drills. The leg is feeling real good," Velasco said.
Velasco spent last season with the Steelers, but is back on the market looking to land with a team in June.
As far as a return to Pittsburgh, Velasco doesn't have a preference on an NFL franchise. He expects to have a chance to start wherever he signs.
