Each year, four years in a row now, Augusta is shut down by the ESi Ironman 70.3. The competitors number over three thousand, and each one has his or her own motivation in the event.

They have to be motivated by something. Completing 70 miles of swimming, biking and running is an impressive feat by any standards, and every year we have a number of locals carrying the flag for their home town.

One of those this year is Richard Fairie. The father of two from Evans completed his second Ironman tSaturday, and to do it so close to home is a special feeling.

"It's more than just doing the event itself," Fairie said. "It's about the camaraderie. I talked to people from New York, from California, from Texas. So, it's nice to brag on our city when you're out there for three hours running or walking. It's a great event."

Of course, any competition has to have a winner and we got one on the men's and women's side.

Ukraine's Maxim Kriat won the men's race for the 2nd time in three years, and on the women's side, it was a victory for Melissa Hauschildt in her first trip to Augusta.

"It was awesome," Hauschildt said. "I've had a tough year this year. I've come away with a handful of seconds so it was good to finally get a win. This course, you keep doing laps up and back and the crowd is everywhere. So, that really helps."
