Aiken, SC -- Needless to say, the last 24 hours have been a whirlwind for anyone involved with Dogwood Stable, especially so for owner Cot Campbell and his wife, Ann.
It started with Palace Malice storming around the final turn Saturday, leaving the field in his wake and giving his owner a first ever Belmont Stakes win.
Now, after a fun night, the Campbells are back in Aiken. Cot admits that the whole thing is bigger than most other experiences in his storied career, and he's just soaking it in.
"He dropped in there in fourth spot and bided his time, and at the top of the stretch, he pounced," Campbell said. "It has not hit me yet. It's just one of those things. It's like throwing a stone into a pool. The ripples just keep going out and out and out. It's like a fairy tale right now."
The Belmont is a million dollar race, so Palace Malice certainly did well for his owner and stable with the win.
This won't be the end for the dark bay colt either. He'll be back on the track soon at Saratoga.
