Augusta, Ga--With the Masters a little later then usual, some events normally after, will be before. GreenJackets open the season at the lake next Thursday. It's also the same day as the first round of the collegiate disc golf championships.
Today, the kick off event as those in charge were on hand to field questions. Hard to believe the championships have grown from six college teams in 2007 to 61 teams this year. Literally from coast to coast, disc golfers will vie for the title.
"The vision for the growth of it was for it to definitely grow fast" said Alan Kane, Tournament Director "Disc golf is growing fast , at its own rate, but we never expected this amount of growth. We expected to have 50 teams 10 years out from the event, and now we're already at 61 seven years in."
Colorado State is the defending champs as most of these teams fund the trip out of their own pocket seeing it's a club sport. The tournament starts next Thursday and runs through Sunday at the Hippodrome in North Augusta.
