Augusta, Ga--It's not every day you can say a two time Cy Young award winner is in Augusta. But Wednesday there was such a man. Former Detroit Tiger great Denny McLain making an appearance.
McLain actually has ties to the area having lived here years ago and his son still calls the area home. During his 10 year big league career in the 60's and 70's, McLain won 131 ballgames and a world series with the Tigers. He's also the last 30 game winner in the big leagues and is a firm believer in pitchers need more innings to be better.
"They keep saying they're going to protect these kids, protect these kids, protect these kids, god, you have to let them pitch" said Denny McLlain "Protect them in that form because if they pitch every day, throw a little bit every day, they're going to get better."
With most starters pitchng 30 to 35 games a year, McLain thinks he may be the last to win that many ballgames in a career
