Curtis Baptist reaching new heights on the gridiron

November 6, 2012

When you talk about which high school football teams have improved the most this year, Curtis Baptist would have to be pretty high on the list.

The regular season hasn't even ended and it's already been a record year for the Crusaders.

Nathan Duffie has taken a perennial loser and turned them into six-win team in the hunt for a home playoff game.

The six wins and a four-game winning streak earlier this year are both school records, and hosting in the playoffs...that would be a first as well.

Duffie said, "It would mean a lot to our kids. Being as young as we are, we do play with a lot of momentum. There are a lot of highs and lows, and if we can pull off a win Friday and have some momentum going into the playoffs, I think it would help our team greatly."

Sophomore Smokey Poole added, "It would be a lot better hearing all your family and friends and people from your school cheering you on just to play some football."

The Crusaders host Dawson Street this friday.

A win means a home playoff game. A loss sends them to Saint Simon's to face Frederica Academy.
