Augusta honors Olympian George Kitchens

Augusta, Ga--It has been a year Glenn Hills product George Kitchens will never forget. Finishes third in the Olympic trials in the long jump and makes his first ever Olympic team. Today, the city honoring Kitchens.

Before today's commission meeting, mayor Deke Copenhaver recongnizing the Augustan for his remarkable accomplishements. Kitchens still has all those Olympic memories fresh in his head and was almost in awe he was among them.

"The whole experience and just being around some of the best athletes in the world" said George Kitchens "Just knowing everyone has a story. Everyone worked very hard to get there and everyone overcame different obstacles and struggles and had the committment to be there and it was just amazing to be around so many amazing people."

Kitchens himself had an amazing story as he was shot and nearly killed as a kid. Now, an Olympic long jumper. He's now setting his sights on the world championships next year in Russia.
