AUGUSTA, Ga. -- The Augusta State Women’s Basketball program returned to the national rankings for the time in nine seasons Tuesday when the Lady Jaguars landed at No. 24 in this week’s USA TODAY Top 25 Coaches Poll, as conducted by the WBCA (Women’s Basketball Coaches Association).

The Lady Jaguars, in their third season under head coach Nate Teymer, are enjoying one of their best seasons in school history. Having already registered the best starts in the history of the program at 8-0 and 14-2, respectively, the Lady Jags can cement their first winning season in five years on Thursday, Jan. 31 with a victory at Peach Belt Conference foe Armstrong Atlantic in Savannah, Ga.

“It’s another big step in the right direction for this program,” Teymer said. “The recognition is terrific and it’s mighty nice to be on the national scene so to speak, but we’ve still got our best basketball ahead of us. We’re interested in the best finish in the school history and that’s what our ladies are focused on. We know we can play better and I’m excited to see us put 40 solid minutes together and see where that’ll take us.”
