AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW) -- The annual Augusta Southern Nationals has been canceled for next week after the continued rain and the amount of water being discharged into the Savannah River.
Dayton Sherrouse, chairman of the event, said the amount of water in the river and the speed of the current will only get quicker in the next few weeks. This is all a result of the continued rain and the amount of water upstream in the reservoirs. Also, the Corps said they can't do anything about the lowering of the discharge can not be changed at this time.
This was suppose to be the 28th annual event featuring drag boats that eclipse the 250 mile an hour mark.
Tickets will be refunded.
