Augusta, Ga--It's hard to believe but for one area football team, the season starts Friday. Augusta Prep gets the honor of opening the season with their brand new stadium now in tact. Things have certainly come a long way in four short years.
Coach Harry Bachellor has done wonders with what was first a middle school program and then just recently made the move to varsity ball. They only lost a few kids from last year's team that actually made it to the post season. They did so by winning close ballgames.
"We won seven games, and I think five of them were in the fourth quarter and we could have easily lost all seven games" said coach Harry Bachellor "We didn't have an easy game last year and I don't think we'll have an easy one this year so they know that. Obviously we can't just go out there and throw the helmet on and say we're here, we're not going to let that happen. It's up to them and every game is going to be a fight"
"We did a lot of conditioning and it will really prepare us for the games I think" said Sam Cleary "It will help us in the fourth quarter and hopefully we'll be in great shape and we won't be completely tired in the fourth quarter."
The team really worked on conditioning this year so they'll be well prepared for those fourth quarter battles. Nate Pylant and Kevin Huggins will split time under center as they again run the triple option. Three of the kids that graduated were big parts of the puzzle and coahc Bacheller says his team isn't ready yet but will have to be come Friday night when they open the season
