Off to a quick 8 and 2 start, the boys from Augusta Chrsitian have quickly grown together as a cohesive unit. A lot of teams do that during the course of a season but the Lions may have come together a bit quicker then most.
With three new players, including Jordan Dingle from South Aiken, this team is ripe with talent up and down the roster. Part of the bonding experience came a few weeks ago when they traveld 2000 miles to Arizona for a tournament. No comforts of home and nobody to lean on other then their teammates.
"I think being thousands of miles away, being cramped in an airplane, flying to Salt Lake City, then to Phoenix, it was a true bonding experience and you can't put a price on that." said coach John Harris "Then also just being in a gym where it's just us. We're not a home team, we're no where near home, so I think it was a great bonding experience for us guys"
"Well we learned we have to come together as a unit to win" said Nick Fortenberry "Even though we were in Arizona, it was the best experience I've ever had. It was amazing to come together as brothers, talking in the hotel room, coming together, it was the best thing"
Lost just once out west and gained plenty of experience. Some overtime games recently has even proven just as valuable. Augusta Chrisitian was a state semifinalist a year ago and with a few new faces, are ready to be a true contender for the title.
