Martinez, Ga--Before the season started, way back in early August, Augusta Christian coach Keith Walton said his team had one true goal, beat Hammond. Figuring if you did that, you'd probably be state champs. Well, the goal remains, three months later.
Augusta Chrsitian off to Columbia for a Saturday title shot against the Skyhawks. The Lions are undefeated and on their way to that point, beat Hammond in the regular season on a last second two point conversion. Stakes are a lot higher seeing Hammond has won the title six straight years. AC though is one confident group they can beat the king ping of scisa football one more time.
"It's good for our kids to get confidence, we realize Hammond has belly buttons now, they're not robots from some other planet that the football gods created" said Keith Walton "I mean, they're human so that does a lot for us."
"I mean Hammond, they're always a different team in the playoffs in the states" said Thomas Banks "I mean they've won six times in a row and it shows right there. We're just going to go out and play with heart. As long as you play with heart I feel we can come out on top."
The Lions are a battle tested team that's capable of putting big points on the board. Don't neccessarly expect that in the title game but even if they fall behind early, they've shown they can rally to win, thus the reason they're undefeated. 7:30 kick off Saturday at Bendict College in Columbia.
