Feb. 16, 2014 SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Armstrong Pirates climbed from a 2-0 deficit to outhit GRU Augusta 11-to-9 and win a 5-3 game in game three of the Peach Belt Conference series on Pirate Field.
Sophomore Hunter Boose blasted a solo homer for GRU (4-6 1-2) in the first inning and senior Ross Miles singled down the left-field line in the fourth to score Bradley Dennis for an easy 2-0 lead. GRU starter Frank Warren pitched 5.2 innings to give up five hits for one run before Will Robertson and Clint Echols each relieved for 1.0 inning.
The Pirates (5-3, 2-1) scored their first in the sixth off Robertson and added two more in seventh off three hits and a GRU error. Boose leadoff the eighth with a single and Connor Gilbert ripped an RBI-single to left field to tie the game at 3-all. Echols gave up four hits for two runs before Tristan Jones pitched 0.1 innings as the Pirates took a 5-3 final on Sunday afternoon.
GRU’s Jones (0-1) got the loss, while the bullpen combined for no strikeouts against the Pirates. Boose went 2-for-3 with two scored runs and an RBI and Dennis, Miles, and JD Sabo each posted two hits. Ryan Patterson paced Armstrong with a 3-for-4 day, while Ryan Good got the win on the mound in 3.0 innings of relief work.
The Jags host Anderson on Tuesday, Feb. 18 for a 3:00 p.m. single non-conference game at Lake Olmstead Stadium.
