Augusta, Ga--They were pretty much the last team standing a year ago. And when it was all said and done, Aquinas was crowned state champs for the first time in school history. An undefeated record with a new head coach. So what do you do for an encore?
Obviously the pressure changes as there is a big old bulls eye squarely on the irish back. Quite alright as this team is loaded with experience. While they may lack it up front, they have plenty of it with skill guys. Taz Lindsey, Ruben Garnett and Liam Welch are just three big parts of the high scoring offense. One thing's for sure, they won't rest on their accomplishments from last year.
"We may be hungrier, you know what I'm saying, we have the targets on our heads so we have to get stronger and faster and I think we've done that in the off season" said Daniel Lindsey "Hopefully none of our guys get a big head, but right now, we're still on the same page."
"We talk about it every morning at workouts, we have that target on our backs. Every game we play is the other team's Super Bowl, everyone wants to beat us. I think they're a little bit more calm this year because they have a little more confidence, but at the same time they're still as hungry." said James Leonard
One big concern is depth. Then again, for any Class A program, it's a worry. Coach Leonard thinks they've had one of their best summers and now as the season quickly approches feels like his team is ready to defend a state title.
