Williston, SC--When they needed him the most, Williston-Elko running back Antonio Coleman came through in the clutch. A bum ankle had held the senior out the past three games. But on Friday, he made up for his absence in pretty much one half. Because of that, Coleman is our Academy Sports and Outdoors player of the week.
It's fair to say the Blue Devils missed the burst of energy that Coleman normally provides. The senior reeled off four touchdowns and 171 yards in the 62-40 win over Wagener-Salley. Even more impressive for Coleman, this was his first game action since the second week of the season against Chesterfield. Coleman put the team on his back as Williston Elko rallied in the second half.
"We went in the lockerroom at halftime and I was just thinking, meditating and thinking about plays I wanted to make in the second half. I didn't want to go down with a loss right when I came back." said Antonio Coleman
"We've got some good backs and kids that run the ball hard, but Antonio's got that little pop, that little speed burst that we need...that allows us to turn four and five yard plays in to fifteen or twenty yard plays." added Dwayne Garrick
Tight game going in to the third, Williston-Elko outscored Wagener-Salley 46-20 in the second half. Coleman notched three of his four touchdowns after the break.
For his big game in the Blue Devil's win, we honor Antonio Coleman of Williston Elko as our Academy Sports and Outdoors player of the week.
