They did it in very different ways, but it got done all the same. Aiken and McCormick girls basketball teams are two wins from a state championship.
In Class AAAA, the Lady Hornets blitzed No. 2 West Ashley from the start, building up a huge lead and bringing it home, winning 75-51 in enemy territory.
Alexis Odom led the way for Aiken, scoring 26 points, while Jay Graham added 11.
Lady Hornets' star Erin Gilmore left the game in the third quarter with what appeared to be a left ankle injury.
Aiken gets a rematch with the state's top ranked team, Dutch Fork, in the Lower State final. The Hornets lost to their region rival 55-40 and 51-45 in the regular season.
That game will be Friday night at 7:00 at the Florence Civic Center.
At McCormick, the Lady Chiefs didn't make it easy on themselves, but that didn't dampen the celebration when the buzzer sounded on their 52-50 win over St. Joseph's.
McCormick led 22-18 at the half, then built that lead to 36-26 late in the third quarter, but it wouldn't hold.
The Lady Knights went on a 9-0 run, then tied the game at 42 midway through the fourth. That's when Terita Brown took over.
The senior scored 22 points in the game, driving to the basket over and over.
It didn't end without incident, though. McCormick led by seven with under a minute to go, then had to hold off a furious charge for the final two-point margin.
The Lady Chiefs advance to the Upper State final Saturday at 11:00 AM at the Bi-Lo Center in Greenville.
