AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Augusta State’s Maverick Antcliff turned in his second straight sub-par round Friday during the second round of the NCAA Tallahassee Regional at Golden Eagle Golf & Country Club in Tallahassee, Fla.
Antcliff piled up six birdies, including five in his last 10 holes, and battled back from a slow start to post a 1-under 71. ASU junior Alex Wennstam managed five birdies of his own en route to a 4-over 76. Antcliff is tied for 20th at 4-under 140 heading into Saturday’s third and final round, while Wennstam is tied for 47th at 3-over 147. Off the 75 players in the field, 29 shot under par or better on Friday compared to 35 players in Thursday’s first round.
Wennstam and Antcliff tee off No. 10 Saturday at 9:20 and 9:40 a.m., respectively, in the third and final round. The ASU duo earned at-large individual bids from the NCAA on Monday, May 6 when the field of 81 teams and 45 individuals were selected for the six regional sites.
A junior from Gothenburg, Sweden, Wennstam played in 11 events for the Jaguars during the regular season. He ranked second on the squad in stroke average (74.03) to Antcliff and led the team in rounds of par or better (13). He enjoyed a strong spring campaign, improving to a 72.79 scoring average in six spring events.
