AUGUSTA, Ga.- The Augusta State Jaguars outgunned the Coastal Georgia Mariners 96-57 on Sunday night in Christenberry Fieldhouse to notch their second victory of the season. The 96 points put up by the Jags were the most the team has scored since dropping 101 on Life University, Nov. 24, 2010.

Junior transfer Ryan Weems came off the bench to score a game and career high 20 points, hitting four of five three-point attempts, and grabbing three steals. Junior Harold Doby contributed 15 points and three steals in only 15 minutes of play, while sophomore Devonte Thomas booked 14 points. Senior Chad July pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds and added seven points. All 13 players who dressed for the game scored.

“Ryan was in foul trouble the first game, so he had to work on that tonight,” said Head Coach Dip Metress. “We accomplished a lot of things I wanted the team to accomplish. I really wanted them to work on better dribble penetration.”

The Mariners were paced by 10 points and eight rebounds from freshman forward Kostas Ezomo, with sophomores Dustin Henry and Reggie Burke notching nine points each.

Despite a slow start, the Jags dominated the first half, leading by as many as 30. Weems was perfect from behind the arc hitting three treys, contributing 14 points in the half. ASU pulled away in the second half while emptying the bench, leading by 46 at the 2:55 mark.

Augusta State shot 52 percent in the game while holding Coastal Georgia to 44 percent. The Jaguars shot 82 percent (23-28) from the charity stripe, and pulled down 40 rebounds to 27 for the Mariners. The Jags defense forced 24 turnovers, including 11 steals.

“We have several upcoming games against teams we lost to last year. Hopefully, we are going for the win this year,” Metress said.

The Jaguars are back in action Wednesday, Nov. 28, for the final game of the three-game homestand against Benedict at 7:30 pm in Christenberry Fieldhouse.
