While we've been focusing a lot on football over the last few weeks, the volleyball season is now underway on the high school front and just about ready to go for the college ranks. High expectations for Augusta State this year.
And rightfully so. They only lost one senior and made big strides on becoming a winner last season. While the expectations of winning remains the same, there is a different bounce in their step. You can tell they believe it more then ever.
"I think every year you come in with the same expectations of win, and play your best" said Krystin Wahlig "We have a lot of new girls so getting everyone involved and wanting to play and play your hardest is just. thats my expectations."
It also helps freshman of the year Alex Rohlfing is back. She was the go to player last season and despite all the pressures, handeled it well. This time around, there's help to minimize some of those pressures.
"The nice things with her she knows she other players around her now, that she doesn't have to carry the burden." said coach Sharon Bonaventure "So she can exhale a little bit more. But expectations are just as high for her as the other kids. The nice thing is we can use her as a decoy and also open her up for more swings because she took a lot of swings last year, and she did very well obviously because she was freshmen of the year."
Jags open the season this weekend in Savannah. Both ASU and USC Aiken are picked to finish in the top five of the Peach Belt Conference.
