ASU golf 13th after two rounds at Olympia Fields

OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. – Augusta State carded an 8-over 288 during the second round of the Olympia Fields/Fighting Illini Invitational at Olympia Fields Country Club’s South Course just outside Chicago.

Four Jaguars – Derek Chang, Alex Wennstam, Robin Petersson and Meechai Padung – tallied a 2-over 72 and Cody Shafer booked a 3-over 73. Shafer slipped into a tie for 23rd and Chang moved into the top 30 at 29th. Wennstam climbed up to 41st, while Petersson and Padung are 47th and 65th, respectively.

The Jaguars improved one spot, moving up to 13th in the 14-team field, which includes six teams ranked in the top 24. Arkansas, the top-ranked team in the field, opened up a 12-stroke lead over Auburn with a 2-under 278. Florida State and Northwestern are tied for third place, 17 shots back, and Oklahoma State remained in fifth.

Sebastian Cappelen of Arkansas turned in the low round of the day – a 3-under 67 – to take a 1-shot advantage over Duke’s Brinson Paolini. Stanford’s Patrick Rodgers and Taylor Moore are tied for third, three shots off the pace, while Arkansas’ Joe Doramus and first-round leader Nicholas Losole of Northwestern are four strokes back.

The field includes No. 8 Arkansas, No. 11 Stanford, No. 12 Florida, No. 16 Florida State, No. 21 Duke and No. 24 Clemson.
