Dru Love was the only golfer at West Lake this week to go under par in all three rounds, and because of that, he's going home the winner of the Charles Howell III Junior Championship.
Love, and Greenbrier senior Cody Shafer came into today tied at 4-under, and after Shafer's double bogey at 17, Love coasted home for a 3-shot win.
It was Love's first AJGA event, and Davis Love's son says his dad's words last night had a big influence on his calm play today and throughout the tournament.
He said, "He told me to just go out and have fun and not really worry if I make a bogey, and just have a lot of fun."
Love wasn't the only player to take advantage of someone else's misfortune at the 17th hole.
Sisters Taylor and Ashlan Ramsey teed off at 17 tied for the lead, but Ashlan's bogey left her one back with a hole to go. Big sister Taylor played it conservatively from there for the win.
The girls admitted they hadn't played in a final group together in a long time, and Taylor said, "It was definitely hard to not play Ashlan and just play the course. So, when I started making bogeys out there, I had to remember to play the course and not worry about my sister."
Both winners received a champion's vase and a Ping golf bag. And the top five boys and top three girls are fully exempt from qualifying tournaments for the remainder of this year.
