Football event to raise money for the American Cancer Society
Westside High School will be the site of a Kick, Punt & Throw Down Cancer event Saturday February 13th.

Augusta, Ga--There will be a fundraiser football competition for the American Cancer Society on Saturday at Westside high school. Registration will be at 10:30 with teh event starting at 11:30am.
Contestants must bring some form of student identification and will be allowed to warm up and practice time, but will only be given one opportunity to have an attempt count for points in the event. Due to strict eligibility guidelines, participants will not be allowed to wear clothing that represents their organization. An organization may have as many as three participants but only one participant in each event.
1) Kicking will be from a tee placed on the goal line. Kicker may not start his approach to the ball from outside the end zone. One point will be awarded for every full yard the ball travels in the air. Bounce and roll distance will not be included. Two judges will spot where the ball first lands. If their spots differ, half the distance between their spots will be added to the shorter spot. The kick must land within the boundaries of the field to count for points. No re-kick if ball lands out of bounds.
2) Punting will also be measured from the goal line. Punter must punt the ball before stepping on or beyond the goal line. One point will be awarded for every full yard the ball travels in the air. Bounce and roll distance will not be included. The punter may not start from outside the end zone. The punt must land within the boundaries of the field to count for points. No re-punt if the ball first touches out of bounds. Two judges will spot where the ball first touches. If their spots differ, half the distance between their spots will be added to the shorter spot.
3) Throws will also be measured from the goal line. One point will be awarded for every full yard the ball travels in the air. The thrower may not start from outside the end zone and he must release the ball before stepping on or beyond the goal line. One point will be deducted for every full yard the ball touches to either side of a temporary center line on the field. Two judges
will spot where the ball first touches. If their spots differ, half the distance between their spots (for both distance and accuracy) will be added to the shorter spot.
4) After participating in the individual events, participants may earn bonus points toward winning a trophy. Kickers– 15 points for a successful field goal from the 25 yard line (2 tries only), Punters– 15 points for having their punt first touch within a 15 ft. square, the center of which is 25 yards from the goal line (2 tries only), Throwers– 15 points for throwing the ball
through a stationary tire at the 15 yard line (2 tries only).
5) First, second and third place trophies will be given to contestants in each event. In case of ties, contestants involved in the tie will have one attempt to break the tie.
6) Organizations that raise at least $200 in donations will receive a framed certificate of appreciation. If possible, donations should be turned in on the day of the event. Otherwise, all donations should be mailed to the American Cancer Society office at 2607 Commons Blvd., Augusta, GA, 30909 no later than one week after the event. Please indicate that donations should be
applied to the “Kick, Punt, and Throw Down Cancer” event.
7) Admission to the event will be free. Donations at the gate will be credited to an organization to count towards their total if the donor chooses. Sandwiches, chips, drinks and other refreshments will be available for purchase. All proceeds will benefit the Relay For Life of Augusta.
Young people who live in the Aiken-Augusta area are encouraged to participate. There will be three individual events: kicking, punting, and throwing a football. Participants must bring to the event some form of student
