Greenjackets shut out Power again

Augusta, GA – The GreenJackets (50-20, 4-1) shutout the West Virginia Power (48-20, 2-4) for the second consecutive night on Tuesday, 7-0. Starter Ben Snyder recorded his fifth straight win with six shutout innings and Augusta plated five runs in the first to take an early lead.

Facing the Milwaukee Brewers top pick in the 2006 draft, Jeremy Jeffress (4-1) lasted just two thirds of an inning and allowed five runs on four hits and could not get out of the first inning for his first loss of the season.

The GreenJackets took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on an RBI single from Bobby Felmy scoring Emmanuel Burriss from third. Two batters later Tyler Graham connected for a one out RBI single scoring Ryan Rohlinger to take a 2-0 lead.

Juan Jean capped off the scoring when he connected for a three run single with two outs for a 5-0 lead and chased Jeffress from the game.

Snyder (9-2) allowed just three hits, walked two and struck out four in the win. Snyder retired the first 10 batters in a row and did not allow a hit over the first 4.1 innings of the game.

Augusta added single runs in the fourth and sixth innings on two out RBI single’s from Brett Pill for a 7-0 lead.

Ryan Shaver worked two scoreless innings in relief of Snyder and allowed three hits, a walk and struck out four. Shaver worked around a bases loaded jam in the eighth inning to preserve the shutout. With one out in the inning and the bases loaded Shaver got a pop out on the infield and a ground out to end the inning and the Power threat.

David Newton pitched a perfect ninth and recorded one strikeout, getting Andy Bouchie to go down swinging to end the game.

The GreenJackets and Power will continue their series on Wednesday night with Augusta sending right-hander Adam Cowart (9-3, 2.18) to the hill. The Power will counter with lefty Brae Wright (5-4, 6.43). First pitch is at 7:05 p.m.
