Augusta, GA – The GreenJackets (50-20, 3-1) opened up an eight game home stand with a 4-0 win over the West Virginia Power (48-20, 2-3) on Monday night. In a match up of the two winningest teams in baseball, Augusta recorded its Minor League leading 14th shutout of the season over the top hitting team in the SAL; one day after the GreenJackets suffered their season worst loss.

Steven Calicutt (2-3) recorded the win in relief with four shutout innings, allowing three hits, one walk and two strikeouts.

The GreenJackets scored all four runs on two outs and Augusta scored its first run of the game in the bottom of the first inning when Matt Weston connected for a two-out double down the right field line scoring Ryan Rohlinger. Rohlinger had reached base on a one-out double to deep right-centerfield. Weston and Rohlinger’s doubles both came on two-strike counts.

Following a scoreless second inning, Rohlinger sparked the GreenJackets offense once again in the bottom of the third by drawing a walk on a 3-2 count. Bobby Felmy then laced an RBI single to right field, scoring Rohlinger who was running on the pitch from first base, for a 2-0 lead.

West Virginia’s Steve Chapman led off the fifth inning with a single up the middle on a hard hit ball that ricocheted off of shortstop Emmanuel Burriss’s glove and into centerfield. Following Chapman’s single, Calicutt replaced starting pitcher Dan Griffin, who yielded only three hits in four plus shutout innings of work for the no decision. Griffin also walked a batter and struck out three.

The GreenJackets made it 3-0 in the fifth inning on a two-out single from Emmanuel Burriss scoring Mike McBryde from second bases. McBryde reached on a one-out single then stole second base to move into scoring position.

Augusta capped off the scoring in the sixth inning on an RBI sac fly to left from Tyler Graham scoring Juan Jean from third base.

Juan Trinidad closed out the ninth to preserve the shutout allowing three hits and recording one strikeout. The Power almost broke up the shutout in the ninth when Chapman singled to right field with two outs and runners on first and second. Andrew Lefave tried to score from second base but Kenny Holmberg was thrown out at second by Felmy before the run scored. Holmberg took a wide turn at the base allowing Felmy to throw behind him for the final out of the game.

The GreenJackets and Power will continue their series on Tuesday night with Augusta sending lefty Ben Snyder (8-2, 2.22) to the hill. West Virginia will counter with right-hander Jeremy Jeffress (4-0, 1.14). First pitch is at 7:05 p.m.
