AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Augusta State moved up to No. 3 Tuesday afternoon in the fourth NABC/Coaches Poll of the 2009-10 season. The ranking matches the highest in school history, first set during the third week of last season.
The Jaguars, who debuted at No. 6 in the first regular-season poll and improved to No. 4 last week, are off to a 7-0 start after a 79-68 victory at Tusculum on Saturday, Dec. 12. With seven straight wins to open the 2009-10 campaign, ASU is off to the program’s best start since the 1965-66 season.
With the ranking, ASU has now appeared in the top 25 for a school-record 40 consecutive weeks, dating back to the 2006-07 campaign. The Jaguars have been ranked among the nation’s top 10 in 19 of the last 20 polls, and reached the top five for the 10th time under head coach Dip Metress.
