Evans, GA. --For the second straight year, Greenbrier is state champions on the baseball field after sweeping top ranked Heritage in the Class 4-A state finals Friday night. In game one, the Wolfpack scored six times in the fifth inning to blow things open and won going away 10-3. Brandon Cumpton went the distance for the win on the mound while Greenbrier benifited from a number of Patriot miscues.
In game two, Nolan Belcher went the distance, striking out 11 as the Pack claimed the title with a 3-2 win. Belcher surrendered a first inning homer, then settled down and didn't allow another run until the 7th. Greenbrier scored a run in the 2nd inning, then in the fifth, Russ Winter reached on a fielder's choice and then on the ensuing throwing error, the decisive third run would score.
The victory was Greenbrier's 29th straight to end the year and gave the Wolfpack fifth state title in school history.
