Augusta, GA – The GreenJackets (36-17) won their second straight game with a 12-6 win over the Greensboro Grasshoppers (30-23) on Wednesday night. The GreenJackets had a season high 18 hits and connected for three home runs including two from Ryan Rohlinger. Rohlinger finished with four RBIs and Dan Griffin recorded the win in relief working three innings.
The GreenJackets broke a 6-6 tie in the bottom of the sixth inning plating three runs for a 9-6 lead. James Simmons and Manny Burriss connected for back-to-back RBI singles in the frame to give Augusta an 8-6 lead. Two batters later Bobby Felmy connected for an RBI sac fly to left field scoring Simmons for a 9-6 lead.
Augusta added three more runs in the bottom of the eighth inning beginning with a one out RBI double from Rohlinger. The GreenJackets capped off their scoring with back-to-back two RBI singles from Matt Weston and Dayton Buller for a 12-6 lead.
Griffin (4-2) allowed one run on three hits while walking one and striking out two.
Augusta broke a 5-5 tie in the fifth inning when Rohlinger connected for his second home run of the night, a solo shot to left leading off the fifth inning off reliever Corey Madden.
The GreenJackets took a 2-0 lead in the first inning when Rohlinger hit a two-run homer to left field off starter Graham Taylor.
The Grasshoppers came back in the second inning to take a 3-2 lead when Daniel Garcia blasted a three-run homer, his eighth of the season. Augusta came right back in the bottom half when Simmons hit a two-out solo homer to tie the game at 3-3.
Greensboro plated two more runs off Augusta starter Ben Snyder in the third inning when Spike McDougall hit a two-run double for a 5-3 Greensboro lead.
Snyder did not allow any more runs after that working five innings and allowing five runs on six hits for the no decision. Snyder also walked two and struck out four.
Augusta rallied back in the third inning with two outs to tie the game at 5-5 when Buller connected for a two-out two-run double. Brett Pill was hit by a pitch with two outs then Weston connected for a base hit to set up Buller.
Andy Jackson (2-3) took the loss for Greensboro allowing three runs on four hits in just a third of an inning of work. Starter Graham Taylor lasted just three innings allowing five runs on eight hits.
The GreenJackets and Grasshoppers will play the third game of their four game series Thursday night with Augusta sending left-hander Clayton Tanner (6-2, 1.97) to the hill. Greensboro will counter with right-hander Hector Correa (0-0, 2.25). First pitch is at 7:05 p.m.
