It's maybe the most improbable run for a Lincoln county Football team in quite some time. When you here legendary coach Larry Campbell being surprised, that will get your attention. AG is AG Middlebrooks, the star running back they lost mid season to a broken leg, but that's not all.
Even before the season, the Red Devils lost a pair of defensive linemen to season ending injuries. Through it all they've persevered and overcome. More then anything, they've galvanized themselves as a team. Following two playoff wins, here they are back in the state quarterfinals.
"As soon as it happened, we were already brought together." said Rusty Scott "Playing closer as a team, everybody had to step up and do more for their part."
"I think it means a lot." said Keestan Wynn "Like the last couple of years we've been going far in the playoffs and this year nobody even expected us to make the playoffs. Now that we've made it this far, we're trying to make it all the way now."
This year is also vastly different is that there's no true stars on Lincoln County. It may be the ultimate blue collar, get down and dirty type of team you'll find. Even coach Campbell is at a loss for picking one or two guys out that have stood above the rest.
"Like today you're going to ask me to talk to the two stars and I can't give you two stars. I can't pick out anybody out. It's not just one person that's doing the job. It's seems like both offense and defense are contributing and the kicking game is contributing." said coach Larry Cambpell
Lincoln County will play host to one of the best teams in the state, Savannah Christian tomorrow night. It's a 7:30 kick in Lincolnton as the joint will be jumping.
