Martinez, Ga--State titles on the cross country front will be handed out this weekend and there's the potential for both the Lakeside boys and girls to bring home the titles. An amazing turnaround in four short years.
But now a days, they are a powerhouse and both teams are actually ranked second in the states. Hard work and dedication is part of the key while it also takes a special group of athletes with natural ability. Whether their running along the canal or Blachard Park, this is a group that's not afraid to work for it.
"For me and for the team, we have a young team, and I came from being a freshmen and the team was next to nothing and we barely even made the states and now this year we're looking to win it so it would mean everything." said senior Connor Crowley
"It's really exciting because it's really the first year that we've actually had a shot at winning state and it's really an awesome thing and it's exciting because the team has gotten so good and it's nice to see everyone improve and stuff." added Anna Bowles
Don't be surprised if the panthers Anna Bowles brings home the individual title as well. She finished second a year ago as a sophomore. It looks like Marist is the toughest competition for both titles.
