Former Clemson coach Danny Ford in Augusta

Thursday Oct. 29, 2009

Augusta, Ga--In the history of Clemson football they've won one national crown. The guy behind it all, was in Augusta tonight speaking at the Augusta Clemson Club's get together.

It was 1981 when Danny Ford led the Tigers to the title in beating Nebraska and Tiger fans will never forget it. During his 12 year tenure at death valley, Ford posted a 56 -16 and 1 record. Even though he's long removed from the coaching ranks, he knows the way to silence the critics is just win, kind of like current coach Dabo Swinney just did.

"I wish him well, I hope he does well." said Danny Ford "He's a little over 500 so that's got to change. He's a lot smarter this week then he was two weeks ago I'll tell you that. It's the way all coaches are so he's doing well right now this week."

Ford did spend a few years with Arkansas after his Clemson days, but never had the same kind of success.
