AUGUSTA, Ga. -- The Augusta State Jaguars defeated the Wingate Bulldogs Wednesday afternoon at Lake Olmstead Stadium in Augusta, Ga. With the win the Jags are 14-5 on the season, and the Bulldogs drop to 7-12.
Wingate jumped on top in the first, scoring three runs off of five hits. ASU answered back in the fourth with two doubles back-to-back by Bennett Mayfield and Tim Rawlings, and then a single later in the inning by Alex Sickman to tie the score, 3-3. The Bulldogs got one more run across, while the Jags leaped ahead scoring four more runs, making the final score 7-4.
Freshman Kyle Payne received the win for ASU, advancing him to 2-0 on the season, and for Wingate, Josh Benton drop to 0-2 on the year.
For the Jags, Rawlings went 2-for-3 with a homer, a double, two runs scored and two RBIs. Robbie Fite also hit 2-for-3 and Jorge Virguez was 2-for-2.
Jay Barnes and Spencer Robinson both led the Bulldogs offensively hitting 2-for-4 .
ASU is back in action this weekend hosting a Peach Belt Conference series against Lander at Lake Olmstead Stadium. The first game of the series will be held on Friday, March 9, at 6:00 p.m., and then a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 1:00 p.m.
