AIKEN, S.C. – USC Aiken libero Samantha Lukralle ended the Pacers’ special “Dig for the Cure” night benefitting the Susan G. Komen Foundation for the Cure for Breast Cancer with a game-high tying 21 digs, but it would not be enough as the Pacers fell 3-1 to Peach Belt Conference rival Augusta State on Thursday evening at the Convocation Center.
Lukralle (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Lindenhurst) was one of three Pacers to conclude the match against Augusta State with double-digit digs with Shannon Byers (Morristown, Minn./Faribault) and Lauren Cedeno (Jacksonville, Fla./Bishop Kenny) also obtaining double-digit digs with both recording 10 in the match.
Augusta State’s Lindsey Weider tied Lukralle for the match-high with 21 of her own. Lagi Roberts also posted 12 for the Jaguars along with Dianna Meyer, who chipped in with 10.
Cedeno as usual paced the USC Aiken attack with 35 assists. Whitney Tabbert (Stewardson, Ill./Stewardson-Strasburg) added 12 assists of her own. Augusta State’s Ashley Zappitell concluded the four-game match with 49 assists.
Byers was one of two Pacers with double-digit kills in the match, ending her evening with 18 to leave her with a double-double with the 18 kills and 10 digs.
Megan Disney (Knoxville, Tenn./Karns) finished with 11 kills for the Pacers.
Augusta State’s Jessica Howard led all in the match with 26 kills. Howard ended her evening hitting .432.
The match opened with Augusta State earning a hard-fought 26-24 win in game one. The Pacers would rebound by garnering a 33-31 victory in the second game to even the match at one each entering the halftime break.
The Jaguars would take the next two to improve to 10-8 on the year overall. Augusta State is now 2-4 in the PBC. The loss dropped the Pacers to 10-8 on the year. USC Aiken is now 2-4 in the PBC.
