It was a great day for Greg and Laura Bennett from Boulder, CO, who took first place honors in their respective divisions at the inaugural ESi Ironman event in Augusta.

The first group of participants left at 7:30 a.m. with the last group taking off from the dock just after 9 a.m. The course consisted of a 1.2 mile swim down the Savannah River, a 56-mile bike ride through Aiken County, and a 13.1 mile run through downtown Augusta.

Greg finished the 70.3 mile course in 3 hours, 47 minutes and 6 seconds to take first place honors in the men's pro division. It's not much of a surprise that he was the winner of the event. He was the top-ranked triathlete from 2002-2004.

30 minutes after Greg finished, his wife Laura crossed the finish line to win the women's pro division by 6 seconds over second place finisher Kelly Williamson.

More than 3,000 people registered for the race, coming from 15 different countries and 44 states.
