Former GreenJacket Madison Bumgarner to start for Giants Tuesday

Tuesday Sept. 8, 2009

San Francisco, Ca--Former Augusta Greenjacket Madison Bumgarner was called up by the San Francisco Giants Tuesday and was slated to start for the Giants.

Bumgarner led the GreenJackes to a South Atlantic League title in 2008 on his way to being named the minor league pitcher of the year. This year in Connecticut, Bumgarner was just as dominating with a 9 and 1 record with a 1.93 earned run average.

Bumgarner, who just turned 20 years old, was slated to replace Tim Lineicum in the starting rotation who's battling an injury. It is expected this will be an early audition for the 20 year old who should vie for a starting spot next year in San Francisco.
