Augusta's Charles Howell III came up just short at the Buick Invitational, losing by 2 strokes to Tiger Woods.
It was his 10th career second place finish against just one tour win back in 2002.
The good news is that two of those runner-up finishes have come this season in just 3 events.
Howell narrowly missed qualifying for this year's Masters at the end of last season and so has two chances to make the field. He can either be in the top 10 in money on tour in the week prior to the '07 Masters or in the top 50 of the world golf rankings.
So far, so good.
Howell is currently second behind Bijay Singh on the money list and finds himself 43rd in the rankings.
A not unimportant side note: Howell is the current leader in the PGA Tour's brand new Fed Ex Cup points ranking system.
