Eastlake, OH – The Augusta GreenJackets scored half of their eight runs on wild pitches, taking advantage of a sloppy Lake County Captains effort in an 8-4 win in the second game between the clubs on Tuesday night at Classic Park.
Francisco Peguero walked to open the game, stole second and third and then scored when third baseman Jeremie Tice mishandled the throw from catcher Michael Valadez to give the Jackets the early 1-0 lead in the first. It was a harbinger of sloppy play to come, as the GreenJackets drew seven walks, took advantage of five Lake County wild pitches, as well as a balk, and watched the Captains commit four errors.
Lake County took a brief lead on Karexon Sanchez’s two-run single in the first but Augusta tied the game in the second on one of their four runs scored on wild pitches. The Jackets took the lead for good in a fourth inning that saw two more runs cross the plate on wild pitches and a third on Peguero’s RBI single, one of his two hits in the game.
