Under Coach Eric Parker, the Laney Wildcats were one of the toughest teams in the state of Georgia.
He turned the Wildcats into perennial winners in Class 2-A, and that success attracted the attention of a bigger school.
That bigger school is Burke County, and Eric Parker is the new head coach of the Bears.
Out of a field of 68 candidates, Parker emerged as the school board's pick tonight and was offered the job as Burke County's head football coach. Parker accepted, calling it a bittersweet day as he had to leave the program he helped build for 10 years.
Parker led Laney to two semifinal appearances during his tenure and seven straight winning seasons. He will be expected to continue that at Burke County.
Steve Summers was let go as Bears head coach this past season after three straight winning seasons weren't good enough to get Burke County into the playoffs.
