GreenJackets owner elected to Baseball Hall of Fame

Video will be available shortly.

January 9, 2007

He was the enduring image of major league baseball the year after the strike which wiped out baseball's playoffs. It was that season Cal Ripken broke Lou Gehrig's consecutive games played record.

Now the Augusta GreenJacket owner is a Hall of Famer.

This was a no-brainer, with Ripken receiving 98 percent of the vote--the third highest amount ever, trailing only Tom Seaver and Nolan Ryan.

During his playing days, Ripken did it all in a Baltimore uniform. He's one of eight men to have 3000 hits and 400 plus homers and won a couple of most valuable player awards. Of course, two years ago, Ripken became notable on the local sports scene with the purchase of the GreenJackets and hopes to continue the team's revival.

But today it's about being in the class of 2007.
