Augusta, GA – The South Atlantic League announced today that Augusta GreenJackets starting pitcher Kyle Nicholson was selected as their Pitcher of the Week for the week of May 25th-May 31st.
Nicholson was honored in response to his complete game shutout victory on Saturday May 30th in the GreenJackets’ 7-1 win over the Lexington Legends in Lexington. He threw his second complete game of the season and the team’s first nine-inning complete game in a five-strikeout performance against the Legends where he allowed just three hits. The lone run off Nicholson came on a fifth-inning home run, which was the only hit off Nicholson after the second inning. Thanks to two double plays and a pickoff, Nicholson faced just two hitters over the minimum in the victory.
The league also announced that Greensboro’s Justin Bass was named their Player of the Week after a week where the Grasshopper hit .583 with two doubles and five home runs.
Nicholson will be awarded a certificate from the South Atlantic League before a future GreenJackets home game in recognition of his achievement. He is the first GreenJackets player this season to be awarded with either the league’s Player of the Week or Pitcher of the Week honors.
