Glavine likely will pitch against GreenJackets

Saturday May 30, 2009

PHOENIX, ARIZONA--A week and a half after John Smoltz pitched in a rehab start against the Augusta GreenJackets, it's likely Tom Glavine will do the same next week in Rome.

Glavine, who's coming off a solid rehab start with the Gwinnett Braves said he probably could be ready to go for Atlanta but manager Bobby Cox said he'll take one more minor league start for the Rome Braves, then join the big club. That start would come early next week, when the Augusta GreenJackets are in Rome.

Glavine threw five scoreless innings in Giwnnett on Thursday in his first minor league game in 22 years. He hasn't pitched since late last season and is closer to his big league return.
