TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — Matt Cerione and Joey Lewis homered in Georgia's eight-run first inning and the Bulldogs used seven home runs to cruise to a 24-6 NCAA regional-opening victory over Ohio State on Friday.

Rich Poythress hit three homers, while Cerione and Lewis each homered twice as Georgia (38-22) withstood a five-hour weather delay before setting season highs for runs and hits.

The Bulldogs battered Big Ten co-pitcher of the year Alex Wimmers for 10 runs in four innings. Wimmers (9-2) walked seven and allowed four homers as the Buckeyes (40-18) suffered their third consecutive defeat.
