On Saturday, we will officially close the book on another great high school sports season here in the CSRA. But before we do, a couple teams will play in the state championship. One of them being the Westminster girls soccer team.
In fact, the Lady Wildcats are the only area team in Georgia alive in the postseason. They've flown under the radar all year but now, all eyes are on them as they try to win their first ever state championship. Like most teams that get this far, they have talent. But these girls know it will take more than talent to bring a state title back home to Augusta.
"A key aspect to our team is just unity," said co-captain Breck Ardrey. "All of us workin together on the field and off the field. Working together at practices 100%. If we all play to the best of our abilities, this team can do amazing things."
"I think it's definitely been our relationship with each other," said co-captain Stephanie Zimmerman. "We're just so close to one another. We play for each other. We love each other. And I think that's helped us get this far."
The Lady Wildcats will face First Presbyterian Day, who defeated Augusta Prep in the semifinals Thursday night. The GISA Class AAA championship game will start at 7:30 and is being played in Macon.
